"Are we to paint what's on the face, what's inside the face, or what's behind it?"
-Pablo Picasso
When a group of people are given the same object to paint, each painting will turn out differently. The painter decides what to include in the painting, and it is open to their interpretation. This makes every painting unique.

I would say we would attempt all 3, then actually paint the face, then take a picture of the face and paint on that!
Indeed paintings and other hand-made artifacts are and were coveted because of their singularity as an object and their resulting authenticity. But Warhol did a lot to change that when he started mass producing his images and changing the very nature of what everyone thought was "painting."
